On June 6, Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo was closed due to vandalism and restroom maintenance repairs.

Graffiti was found covering the walls in the restrooms.

“We got hit pretty hard with graffiti in the restrooms. We also had a leak inside the pipe chase, a considerable leak, so we had to actually close the restrooms for most of the day to clean off the graffiti and make the repairs,” said Parks Maintenance Supervisor Adam Basden.

French Park has also experienced several vandalism incidents in the last couple of months, with the most recent acts being broken glass on playgrounds, tennis and pickleball courts.

Mitchell Park re-opened Friday morning, but within a half-hour, the restrooms had to be closed again due to a major clog in the plumbing system.

Public Works says people can call the non-emergency dispatch number if they see any problems.
