The Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel held a public meeting to discuss its role in the projected power plant shutdown Wednesday.

The panel is made up of selected volunteers to work with both the public and PG&E, the meeting outlined how the panel was selected, how the community can get involved, and provided updates on the decommissioning of Diablo Canyon.

The panel held its first public meeting in May 2018 and has since led eight public meetings and six workshops, and wants to, “encourage the public to be involved and if people have an interest with being more involved with the panel to let us know, and to voice their opinions,” panelist, Nancy O’Malley said.

With the power plant projected to close in 2025, the panel is taking a head start and planning for the future in hopes of a smooth decommissioning process for the community and PG&E.
