The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says Search and Rescue Team members found additional remains in an area off Highway 1 in Morro Bay where a human skull was discovered Thursday.

The remains and skull are believed to be of the same person.

A Caltrans crew doing maintenance work near the southbound Morro Bay Blvd. offramp discovered the skull and alerted authorities.

The sheriff’s office says a pathologist who examined the skull on Thursday estimates it had been in the area anywhere from several months to a year.

The cause of death is unknown at this time but the sheriff’s office says, so far, there is no indication of foul play.

The remains were reportedly discovered near the remnants of a transient camp, but sheriff’s officials say it’s unknown if there is any connection.

An identification has not yet been made.
