Russell Park in Santa Maria is undergoing an estimated $1 million in renovations and upgrades, including a new playground, a new restroom facility and updating other aspects of the park to address community needs.
“As our parks get used, we love that, we do need to keep them updated and make sure that they’re current with the community needs,” said Dennis Smitherman, City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Management Analyst.
The funding for the park upgrades comes from The Housing-Related Parks Program, a state-run program, as well as the Community Development Block Grant.
The renovations should take about one year to complete.
