UPDATE: Hwy 101 reopens following multi-vehicle crash in Santa Maria

UPDATE (7:55 a.m.) – CHP reports Highway 101 near Donovan Road has re-opened.


 

ORIGINAL STORY: A multi-vehicle crash in Santa Maria early Saturday morning shut down a portion of Highway 101.

As of 7:30 a.m., the southbound lanes of the highway near Donovan Road remained closed but crews were making good progress on clearing the crash.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash was reported at about 5:15 a.m. near the Donovan Road offramp.

According to initial reports, the reporting party told dispatch a vehicle was swerving before it crashed into another vehicle.

As many as five to six vehicles may be involved.

Traffic was being diverted off the highway at Donovan and Caltrans was called out to assist with the closure of the highway.

Major injuries are being reported.

It was not immediately known when the highway would reopen.
