Safe and sane fireworks sales begin on Central Coast

and last updated

Safe and sane fireworks went on sale Friday at stands across the Central Coast.

There are a limited number of authorized booths that can sell safe and sane fireworks and they’re only allowed in certain cities – Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Oceano, Morro Bay, Templeton, San Miguel, Santa Maria, Lompoc, and Guadalupe.

The use of all other types of fireworks is illegal.

Rules vary for each jurisdiction, so make sure you know when you’re allowed to set them off before lighting your safe and sane fireworks.

One change this year is in Arroyo Grande, where the use of safe and sane fireworks will now only be allowed on July 4.

Setting off illegal fireworks or lighting any type of fireworks in areas where they’re banned can result in fines of $1,000 or more.

Most stands around the Central Coast serve as major fundraisers for local youth groups and other non-profit organizations.
