UPDATE: Power was restored by 8 a.m. Wednesday.
ORIGINAL STORY: Thousands of PG&E customers were without power in Santa Maria Tuesday evening after someone drove into a pole.
PG&E is restoring electrical power to more than 2,000 customers following a vehicle into a power pole at Betteravia at Thornburg about 6:00 p.m. Power should be restored by 10 tonight.

According to the City of Santa Maria, over 2,000 customers lost power at Betteravia Street and Thornburg Street.
The outage was first reported at around 6:00 p.m. As of 10:30 p.m., there are still 198 customers without power.
According to the utility’s website, power is expected to be fully restored by 7:00 a.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
