Orcutt man dies after crashing into farm tractors near Guadalupe

An 83-year-old Orcutt man died after crashing into farm tractors near Guadalupe last week, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. on southbound Highway 1 north of Black Road.

Warner Deutschman was heading south on Highway 1 at an unknown speed when, for unknown reasons, his minivan drifted into the opposite lane where it eventually hit farm tractors parked on the dirt shoulder north of Black Road, CHP says.

Both vehicles had major damage.

Deutschman and his passenger, who has been identified as his wife, 81-year-old Shirly Ann Deutschman, were taken to the hospital,

CHP says Warner Deutschman died from his injuries. Shirly Deutschman’s injuries were described as moderate.

Highway 1 was closed in the area for about 25 minutes while officers investigated.
