A flower urn stolen this month from the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial in Atascadero was placed there in honor of a sergeant killed in Iraq more than 10 years ago.

Photos posted to the organization’s Facebook page Thursday night show the urn to be gold in color and filled with red, white and blue flowers, a flag, and a picture of Sgt. Ayres, who reportedly died while serving in Iraq on Sept. 29, 2007.

The urn was sitting on the ground and not on the wall when it was taken around 10 a.m. July 7, according to police.

The man who reportedly took it was caught on surveillance at the memorial site.
