Additional Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office custody deputy tests positive for COVID-19

An additional Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office custody deputy has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to officials, the custody deputy has been asymptomatic and was tested in the early morning hours on Wednesday, July 1st during a sweeping test of all custody staff.

The custody deputy wore an N95 mask when she last had contact with inmates on Tuesday, June 30th, the sheriff's office said in a press release.

Of the employees who previously tested positive, sheriff's officials say seven have returned to work, 14 are recovering at home, and one is in the hospital as of Wednesday.

The sheriff's office says testing of staff and inmates is ongoing.
