San Luis Obispo County Animal Services is recommending animal cruelty charges be filed against the owner of a dog that was found with duct tape wrapped around its muzzle.

A resident on Loma Lane in Paso Robles found the 7-month-old Labrador Retriever earlier this week, removed the tape and reported it to authorities.

She told KSBY the dog's mouth was taped closed and there was tape above its eyes, around its ears and a dead bird was attached to the tape.

Animal Services says the dog's owner was apparently trying to discipline the dog for attacking some chickens.

Officials at Animal Services have sent their investigation report to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office with a recommendation that the owner be charged with one felony animal cruelty charge and one misdemeanor animal cruelty charge. It will be up to the DA's Office to determine whether charges are filed.
