Arroyo Grande Police Chief Beau Pryor announced his retirement Friday.

Chief Pryor says his last day with the department will be Thursday, July 9.

Pryor began his career with the Arroyo Grande Police Department in 1994 and was appointed chief in 2017.

Pryor says he has spent the past four years mentoring two police commanders who are now competing to take over his job.

He says his retirement will allow him to spend more quality time with family and friends.

"I am very appreciative for all of the support that has been provided to me, my family and all of the outstanding members of your Arroyo Grande Police Department!" Chief Pryor said.
