In a statement on Monday, Atascadero Police say they are looking into the possibility that a fatal crash Saturday may be the result of a "street race" on Highway 41.
The car crashed on Highway 41 near Frog Hollow Drive just after 8:15 p.m. on Saturday. Police say the driver of a blue Mustang lost control of the car and rolled over, before crashing into an embankment and telephone pole.
Atascadero PD described the other car allegedly involved as a black or dark-colored vehicle. They are also investigating whether drugs or alcohol may have also been a factor.
Police say the driver of the blue Ford Mustang was a 59-year-old man. His identity is not being released. Police say he suffered fatal injuries from the crash, despite lifesaving efforts by other drivers and first responders.
