The Atascadero Police Department is investigating an attempted stolen vehicle and car crash incident.

Police said they responded to reports of a car crash at the 8400 block of Del Rio Road around 1:55 p.m. Tuesday. When they got there, they said a resident told them someone tried to steal their vehicle from their driveway.

When the resident saw the suspect attempting to steal their car, police said he reportedly confronted the suspect who then drove away in the vehicle down the driveway and crashed into a car on Del Rio Rd.

Atascadero police said the suspect tried to flee again but collided into a tree, disabling the vehicle. That is when the resident and witnesses confronted the suspect again. At that point, the suspect pointed a gun at the witness and fled in a separate car, that had been waiting in the area.

While searching for the suspect, Atascadero police found an unrelated vehicle parked at an abandoned residence nearby and found a loaded gun, a loaded shotgun and narcotics.

The Atascadero Police Department is still investigating the two incidents.
