CHP officials arrested an Atascadero resident on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after a car crash on Highway 101 near Templeton early Sunday morning.

According to a press release from CHP, 52-year-old Arnold Johnson of Paso Robles was driving southbound on Highway 101 shortly after 1:30 a.m. when he saw a vehicle driving the wrong way on the freeway towards him.

Officials say Johnson swerved to the right to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but was unable to avoid the crash. The left front of the oncoming vehicle hit the left front of Johnson's car.

CHP officials say they arrested 36-year-old Monica Duggan of Atascadero on suspicion of DUI. Duggan had a bloody nose and was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, according to the press release.

Johnson and his passenger, 27-year-old Tyler Evangelista of Santa Margarita, were also transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center "for precautionary reasons," according to CHP.

CHP says the crash is under investigation.
