The Atascadero Warming Center is in need of volunteers for the upcoming winter months.

The facility is open when the temperature is expected to be less than 41 degrees and/or there is a 50% chance of rain.

“We just provide basic human needs. We all need food, shelter and clothing” said Lorie McGoff-Head, a volunteer with the center.

This year's facility is located at 4500 El Camino Real.

The center opened its doors at the start of November and will be open until mid-April.

There are currently two employees on payroll for the center which stay overnight to monitor the center and also help cook the complimentary meals.

“It can get to a burn out point. Everybody needs time off, so we’re really looking to the community to volunteer," added McGoff-Head.

Those who come into the warming center are also provided with clothing and transportation.

“I think its our human decency to want to help people in need. If you’re out there and you want to help some people in need, this is where you come,” said Scott Pressley, the center's on-site manager.
