Authorities are seeking information on a dog they say attacked and killed another dog in Grover Beach Wednesday morning.

It reportedly happened at about 9:42 a.m. in the Hero Park area along the 1600 block of Farroll Road.

Police say those who called to report the attack described seeing a larger dog, possibly a pit bull, with a red collar running loose through the neighborhood when it attacked a smaller dog being walked by its owner.

The injured dog was taken to a local pet emergency room but police say it died from its injuries.

Police are now looking for the larger dog and ask anyone who lives in the area of South 16th Street and La Selva Avenue who sees a dog matching the description or knows anything about the dog or its owner to contact Grover Beach police at (805) 473-4511 or San Luis Obispo County Animal Service at (805) 781-4400.

Animal services is handling the investigation, which police say is standard in cases like this.
