Fashionable purses were on display for bidders and winners walked away with a new accessory while also helping fund scholarships for local girls and women.

The third annual Bags to Benefit raised money through a silent purse auction on Saturday at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo.

The proceeds help pay for young girls and women who are looking to pursue degrees in higher education.

New or like-new purses, tote bags and backpacks with consumables and excursions lined tables.

Guests could bid on their favorite accessory item through the event's silent auction or buy raffle tickets for a chance to win one.

The fundraiser was hosted by the Soroptimist International San Luis Obispo Club.

A few members got the idea to from a local chapter from the Santa Clara of Silicon Valley Club when a group of women attended a Sierra Pacific Regional Conference fundraising workshop.
