The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office reports that a man who barricaded himself inside a home on Monday afternoon is being evaluated and treated by mental health professionals.

At approximately 1 p.m., sheriff's officials say deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Carpenter Canyon Road near the Cold Canyon Landfill south of San Luis Obispo.

They say a man had fired several shots at the tires of an unattended vehicle then barricaded himself inside the home with two family members.

Sheriff's officials say the man was experiencing a mental health crisis.

After about 90 minutes of negotiations that included Behavioral Health Specialists with the Sheriff's Community Action Team (CAT), the man reportedly came out of the house unarmed with the two family members.
No one was hurt.

Sheriff's officials say the man was not arrested but placed on a mental health hold.
