UPDATE (11:21 p.m.) The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has lifted the shelter in place following the bear sighting.

It is unclear at this time where the bear will be removed to.

ORIGINAL STORY: Fish & Game responded to downtown Solvang Saturday night after a bear was found wandering in the area.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said shortly after 10 p.m. the bear was cornered in an alcove in the area of the 1600 block of Mission Drive.

Residents are being told to stay indoors.

Fish & Wildlife officers say the bear appears to be a large adult.
