An Atascadero woman has been arrested on suspicion of grand theft, embezzlement, forgery, and attempted grand theft after investigators say she stole nearly $1 million from a Creston construction company.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies arrested Joy Noel Wilde, 41, on Wednesday.

Sheriff's officials say they were contacted by the construction company in July. The owner said their bookkeeper had embezzled more than $47,000 from the company by altering a check that had been made out to a vendor and depositing it into her personal bank account.

The sheriff's office says a three-month long investigation revealed that over the past three years, Wilde had forged and deposited 63 company checks totaling $957,000 into her own bank account.

Wilde is currently being held in the San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $200,000.
