CAL FIRE search and rescue crews took a new jet ski for a spin at Pismo Beach Tuesday morning as part of their training.

Crews trained alongside Pismo Beach lifeguards, conducting one and two-person rescue drills.

The department just received a new jet ski, bringing the number in their fleet to three.

CAL FIRE assistance can be critical in rescue operations, not just when it comes to battling fires, but out in the ocean.

"Typically, the public will think that we're mostly fighting wildland fires and that's what we do, but we also have a rescue program," explained Adan Orozco, CAL FIRE PIO. "During the summer months, you can almost expect a call a day to be out here on the beach."

Crews will be back out on the water again Tuesday night, practicing rescues in the dark.

The team also conducted rescue drills at the airport Tuesday morning.
