Cal Poly is accepting ideas for next year's Rose Float Concept Contest. The deadline for entries is Thursday Feb. 6 at 5 p.m.
The 2021 float will be designed and built by Cal Poly and California State Polytechnic University students.
Next year's Rose Parade theme is "Dream. Believe. Achieve."
Organizers want to encourage people who love to sketch, tell stories or draw fanciful pictures to enter the contest.
The winner will receive two Rose Bowl tickets or $500 and the opportunity to watch their parade design roll down Colorado Boulevard in front of millions of TV viewers.
Entries should be a black and white sketch, no larger than 11 by 17 inches, that illustrates an idea rather than a finished design. Organizers say animation ideas are welcome.
People who submit should include their name, phone number and email address on the back of the entry. Digital copies should be emailed to CalPolyRoseFloat1949@gmail.com, with the subject line “2021 Concept.”
Hand-drawn designs should be delivered to Cal Poly Rose Float, 1 Grand Ave, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407 no later than Tuesday, Feb. 4.
There is no limit on the number of entries per person.
The universities floats recently won the 2020 Director’s Award [calpolynews.calpoly.edu] for the most outstanding artistic design and use of floral and non-floral materials, as well as the 2019 Extraordinaire Award [calpolynews.calpoly.edu], with aliens and astronauts celebrating music as a language for all.
