Cal Poly's police dog, Zeus, received more than 10,000 votes in a recent national contest.

Due to those votes, $1,000 dollars will go to the Cal Poly K9 Program.

Cal Poly's K9 program is completely funded by the community.

"Our dogs are not just police dogs that go out there and put their lives on the line," says Stephanie Pippen, Cal Poly Police K9 handler, "For us our dogs are here for our community meaning Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo."

Zeus, the three-year-old German Shepherd was the sixth-highest vote getter in the contest.

Zeus beat out nearly 400 other K9's.
