Cal Poly says video of a student getting sprayed in the face with water is not a case of hazing.
The video surfaced earlier this month and was handed over to Cal Poly's Dean of Students Office. It was reportedly filmed while students were playing a drinking game and included members of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
The university says officials conducted a thorough investigation to determine whether the incident involved the hazing of a new fraternity recruit, as it was alleged.
Cal Poly says it determined that the video was shot before Greek Life recruitment began for the 2018-19 school year, was not filmed at a registered fraternity house or gathering, and no fraternity recruits were involved.
While the university confirmed that members of Beta Theta Pi were involved in the drinking game, officials say there's "no evidence that student leaders of the chapter were aware of the events shown in the video when it was shot."
