An annual and popular event at Cal Poly is still happening, but this year it will be online.
The student-run Tomato Spectacular plant sale, which features more than 70 different types of tomato plants at $6 each, begins Friday.
Cal Poly says people can order online at www.polyplantshop.com. Customers will be called and given a day and time to pick up their orders from Cal Poly, Los Osos or Morro Bay.
The sale was originally set to happen the first week in April, but was canceled due to COVID-19 safety concerns.
"We have more than 3,000 tomato plants available for purchase that students worked hard to cultivate," said Wendy Robinson, campus greenhouse manager, in a press release. "While we are not able to offer the traditional sale because of important social distancing requirements related to COVID-19, staff and students alike worked hard to find a virtual platform to make sure the community is still able to support these students' hard work."
The sale will continue until the plants are sold out.
