Caltrans is shutting down Highway 246 at Thumbelina Drive in Buellton starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday until 9 a.m. on Friday.
Officials say there is a risk of multiple trees falling due to strong winds. Caltrans crews spent the day on Thursday trimming those trees and will resume their work in the morning on Friday.
Caltrans says drivers should take Highway 154 and Highway 101 as detours.
