A vehicle pursuit that began in Santa Maria ended Friday afternoon in Atascadero.

Santa Maria police say it started when an officer tried to pull over the driver of a white Honda Civic on suspicion of driving impaired.

Police say the driver refused to stop and continued driving erratically. At one point, they say she tried to run over a motorcycle officer.

The California Highway Patrol took over the chase as the driver continued north on Highway 101.

CHP says the pursuit reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and the driver used the median and right shoulder of the highway to evade officers. Spike strips were deployed twice but were unsuccessful.

A crash involving another vehicle occurred during the pursuit just south of Santa Barbara Road near Atascadero. Officers say the driver struck a Volkswagen Atlas as she used the highway median to try to pass the vehicle. The Volkswagen overturned and the driver suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the white Honda continued northbound following the crash.

CHP says she eventually stopped in Atascadero on Atascadero Ave. near Santa Rosa Rd. and was taken into custody despite kicking and biting at officers.

The suspect has been identified as Miranda Alexus Baro, 29, of Paso Robles. She was arrested on suspicion of felony evading and felony DUI. She was reportedly taken to the hospital for a chemical test following her arrest.
