A 75-year-old man from Carpinteria was killed in a crash along Highway 101 in Ventura.
The California Highway Patrol says it happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Officers say the man was driving a 2003 GMC pickup truck in the northbound lanes approaching Johnson Drive when, for unknown reasons, he lost control and went off the road.
The truck overturned and landed in a dirt field.
Officers say the driver, who was reportedly wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved.
According to the Ventura County Star, the driver was identified by CHP as John Lindgren.
CHP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
