To support social distancing, RTA/Paso Express and SoCo Transit will begin limiting the number of passengers in all fixed route services.
The number of passengers will vary depending on the size of the vehicle.
Here are the new passenger limits:
1. Forty foot Buses (RTA): No more than 10-15 riders can be on a bus at one time - 10 individuals, or up to 15 if customers are riding together (such as couples or parents with children).
2. Thirty-five foot Buses (SCT & Paso Express): No more than 8-12 riders can be on a bus at one time - 8 individuals, or up to 12 if customers are riding together (such as couples or parents with children).
3. Paso Express International Buses: No more than 7-10 riders can be on a bus at one time - 7 individuals, or up to 10 if customers are riding together (such as couples or parents with children).
4. Route 15 Cutaway Van (RTA): No more than 5-7 riders can be on a bus at one time - 5 individuals, or up to 7 if customers are riding together (such as couples or parents with children).
5. Demand Response vehicles - 1 passenger per trip (not counting one Personal Care Attendant and one Companion on Runabout vans). We ask that riders forego non-essential trips.
Limiting the number of passengers allowed on board at one time will ensure that riders have enough space to spread out and prevent overcrowding.
The transits request that riders allow essential workers who need to use the bus have priority boarding and to not ride the bus if you do not need to take the trip.
"We are all in this together." says RTA Executive Director Geoff Straw. "We know all these recent changes haven't been easy or convenient. These restrictions will help our community get through the quarantine, so we can get back to serving you normally as soon as possible. We're as eager for that day as you are."
RTA has already reduced service to weekdays running on a Saturday schedule that includes express trips. Buses currently run fare free and non-disabled passengers board and alight from the rear door of the bus to reduce exposure to the bus operators.
