The Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero and Corgiat family are coming together to bring sloths back to the zoo and dedicate a portion of the exhibit to honor the memory of Jake Corgiat.
The zoo said they haven't had sloths since 2017. The Charles Paddock Zoo is working with the family to help memorialize their son, who passed away unexpectedly last November. They're planning on putting a plaque up with his name and some of his story.
Jake's mom, Christie Corgiat, said her son was an animal lover and enjoyed seeing the sloths. Eventually, the animal became a special symbol for the family.
"I mailed him care packages with anything that had a sloth on it," she said. "A poster, socks, things and candy. Anything fun."
