CHP looking for man who fled on foot after attempted traffic stop in Nipomo

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is searching the Nipomo area for a man who fled on foot from a traffic stop.

The CHP says around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, an officer pulled over a man driving an Acura at high speeds on Highway 101, near the northbound Tefft Street exit.

Officers say after information of the driver was taken and the officer went back to the patrol vehicle, the subject exited the car and ran into the embankment on Oakglen Avenue.

California State Parks and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office helped respond to the search as the CHP's helicopter and a K-9 was used to look for the man.

Several people told KSBY they saw a CHP helicopter and several officers searching the area of Oakglen Ave. and Grove Lane.

The CHP says they found beer cans in the man's vehicle and there's evidence he may be drunk, but no threat to the public.

Officers attempted to locate the man, but have not been able to thus far.
