A bell toll tribute ceremony will be held in memory of CHP Officer Andre Moye Jr. who was killed in the line of duty on Monday, August 12.

CHP says Wednesday August 14 was originally planned as a celebration of California Highway Patrol's 90 years of Safety, Service, and Security, is now a day to mourn the sacrifice of yet another of the state's faithful servants.

Officer Moye, 34, was impounding a vehicle near Interstate 215 in Riverside when the driver retrieved a firearm from his car and began to shoot at him.

CHP says Officer Moye was transported to the hospital, along with two other responding officers who were also struck by gunfire. Officer Moye later died in the hospital, the other two officers suffered major injuries but are expected to be okay.

Officer Moye had been serving the community of Riverside since graduating from the CHP Academy in March 2017. He is survived by his wife, Sara; parents, sisters, and brothers.
