Lompoc city leaders declared a local emergency Tuesday in response to the increasing spread of novel coronavirus across the state.
City officials say the declaration allows for the activation of the city's Emergency Operations Center, which qualifies the city to receive federal reimbursement for COVID-19-related costs.
It also helps facilitate coordination with county, state, and federal emergency response teams.
City leaders say they can still provide essential services to community members.
