Santa Maria has appointed Todd Tuggle as the city's new interim fire chief starting Dec. 19.
Chief Tuggle is a Cal Poly graduate who served with the City of Fresno Fire Department for 17 years.
He earned his master of arts in homeland security from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2016.
The Santa Maria Fire Department has six fire stations and 75 positions.
Each year, crews respond to about 10,000 service calls.
