The City of Santa Maria is hosting a virtual Dia de los Muertos celebration.

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a day set aside to honor the memory of loved ones who have passed away.

Every Monday through November 9, information highlighting the traditions and customs behind the holiday, as well as ideas for how to celebrate, will be posted on Facebook @smrecandparks and Instagram @santamaria_recandparks.

The posts will include history lessons, recipes, and instructional videos on designing altars, face painting, sugar skulls, and other crafts.

Community members are also encouraged to share photos of the altars they've created to honor their loved ones for an online slide show. To be included, send pictures to rpinfo@cityofsantamaria.org by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.
