The City of Santa Maria is hosting a blood drive Tuesday afternoon amid concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and very low blood supplies.
Community member can donate between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Vitalant bloodmobile.
The bus will be parked between the lawn bowling green and the Paul Nelson Aquatics Center along South McClelland Street directly across the Santa Maria Public Library.
Vitalant officials say their blood centers only possess a two-day supply of multiple blood types, half the sufficient amount needed to treat the typical amounts of patients.
Community members can call Vitalant offices at (805)-542-8500 to schedule an appointment.
Organizers say temperatures will be taken before anyone boards Vitalant's bus and social distancing will be practiced.
Donating blood is considered an essential reason to leave your home.
