City worker runs over man on ground near riverbed in Paso Robles

UPDATE (7:42 p.m.) - Police say the man who was run over and killed by a city employee was 27-years-old.

They say it's unknown whether he was sleeping or had medical issues which caused him to lay down on the walkway.

Police don't be believe drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor.

A man was pronounced dead after being run over by a city employee in Paso Robles Thursday morning, according to Paso Robles police.

Police say it happened at about 10:30 a.m. at 13th Street and River Road near the Salinas Riverbed.

Police say the 27-year-old man was lying on the walking path/access road under the 13th St. bridge, which is used by city employees who conduct maintenance work in the area, when he was hit.

The city employee, whose name has not been released, was on duty at the time and immediately called to report the incident, police say.

Police add that an autopsy will be conducted to determine whether the man died from injuries sustained from being hit or if he was already dead when the incident happened.

Investigators say alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this collision.
