Dozens of community members in Santa Maria held a demonstration Saturday, showing support for protesters in Portland.
Members of the Santa Maria Youth Abolitionist Organization and the Central Coast Organization organized the peaceful protest outside of Santa Maria City Hall.
Some participants of the demonstration say there was spoken poetry and remarks on political repression from community leaders before people took to the sidewalks to hold signs and lead chants.
Participants say there were some counter protesters across the street during their event.
According to an Instagram post from the Central Coast Organization, demonstrators sought to show solidarity with Portland protesters and the Black Lives Matter movement.
