Crews are making progress on the new pedestrian hybrid beacon crossing on Foothill Boulevard in San Luis Obispo.

The PBH is a traffic control device used to stop road traffic and allow pedestrians and bicyclists to cross the road safely.

The crossing is meant to improve safety at Pacheco and Bishop's Peak elementary schools.

The Federal Highway Administration says PHB'S reduce overall collision rates by 29%.

Construction began in late July, the project is expected to be complete later this fall.
