UPDATE: Car discovered one day after crashing 50 ft down embankment in San Miguel, one person dead

(UPDATE): California Highway Patrol says a single vehicle crash happened one day before it was reported.

CHP says the single vehicle crash occurred on Sunday, May 31 at around 6:45 a.m. Officers say a rancher was tending to animals in the area when they found the vehicle.

Further investigation found that the vehicle overturned three times before coming to a rest down a 50 foot cliff.

CHP says the driver, Daniel Koudelka, 50, of San Miguel suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

CHP expects drugs or alcohol to be factors in the cause of the crash.

(UPDATE: 6:30 a.m., Tuesday) - CAL FIRE SLO along with California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a single vehicle crash in San Miguel at around 5:20 p.m. Monday.

The crash happened on the 4100 block of Ranchita Canyon Road near Nickel Creek Road.

When first responders arrived, they found a single vehicle crashed off the roadway and went 50 feet down a cliff.

Fire officials confirmed one person died at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

A coroner was requested at the scene of a crash near San Miguel Monday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were called to the 4100 block of Ranchita Canyon Road at about 5:19 p.m. for reports of a vehicle that had gone off a cliff.

The area is reportedly on private property.

Few details were immediately available but the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office says a coroner was requested at the scene.
