UPDATE (6 p.m.) - The Santa Barbara County Fire Department reports that three people were killed in a crash Friday afternoon on Highway 154 at the Cold Spring Bridge.

A fourth person was flown to an area hospital with what are described as critical injuries.

The three-vehicle crash sparked a brush fire that burned two acres, according to fire officials.

Highway 154 remains closed through the area.

UPDATE (5:15 p.m.) - Highway 154 near Lake Cachuma is closed in both directions due to a fatal crash, CHP reports.

Drivers are advised to use Highway 101 and to avoid Highway 154 for the time being.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says critical injuries were reported in the two-vehicle crash, which also required extrication.

(4:58 p.m.) - A vehicle fire has reportedly spread to vegetation following a crash Friday afternoon on Highway 154.

It was reported at about 4:45 p.m. in the area of Lake Cachuma.

Initial reports into the California Highway Patrol were that multiple vehicles were involved.

One of the vehicles was said to have caught on fire and the flames were spreading to a nearby hillside.

One person may also be trapped and crews are considering closing the road in the area, according to CHP.

No other information was immediately available.
