Caltrans crews are working on replacing the Salsipuedes Creek Bridge on Highway 1 near Lompoc this week. They're also building a retaining wall and fish passage.
Traffic will be redirected onto the newly constructed southbound bridge on Wednesday,
The 24/7 traffic signal will be temporarily turned off during construction.
Drivers will have to follow a pilot car and flaggers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
When the traffic switch is finished, the traffic signal will be restored allowing two-way traffic on the southbound bridge. Then crews will start construction on the northbound bridge.
Lane width will be reduced during construction, so over-sized vehicles will have to take an alternate route during this project.
This project is expected to be finished by the end of this year.
Caltrans wants to remind drivers to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones.
