Central Coast community members put on their dancing shoes for an all-day square dance event.

The inaugural Pismo Beach Bash Square Dance Festival happened Saturday from 9 a.m to 10:30 p.m. at the Veteran's Hall in Pismo Beach.

Attendees of all dance levels and all ages took part in square, circle and line dancing.

"Square dancing is team dancing, it's eight people working together to successfully get through the choreography and get back to their home position when it's all over," said Darren Gallina, the featured square dance caller.

Nearly 100 dancers from all over California were expected to take on the dance floor all day.

Organizers with the Central Coast Square Dance Association said they've already booked the location of the festival for next year since the first event had such a strong turnout.
