The annual 'Day of Hope' fundraising event returned for a seventh year, bringing in $257,202 for Mission Hope Cancer Center.

Event organizers hosted an event Wednesday at Marian Regional Hospital to celebrate this year's donations.

"That just shows the support of the community for our cancer patients, and as you know, all these funds go back right to the cancer patients in our community so it's true support," said Katherine Guthrie, senior director of oncology services central coast division.

This year's fundraiser was hosted virtually due to covid-19 concerns.

In past years, hundreds of volunteers team up to sell $1 special-edition Santa Maria Times newspapers on street corners throughout Santa Maria, Nipomo, Orcutt, Lompoc and the Santa Ynez Valley.

Organizers want to thank everyone who participated in this years fundraiser.
