The California Department of Motor Vehicles is extending expiring commercial driver's licenses through May 31.
Officials with the department say this extension is meant to allow commercial drivers to focus on delivering essential products and supplies during the pandemic.
After updated guidance from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the DMV is also extending learner's permits and endorsements that expire between March 2020 and May 31, 2021.
Extensions are automatic and law enforcement has been alerted about the extensions.
Eligible commercial drivers will not receive a new card in the mail, but they can request a free temporary paper extension online.
However, that is not required or needed.
While the DMV remains open to the public, officials there encourage all drivers to update their information when needed online through its website.
