Original Story: A driver was killed in a rollover crash off Highway 101 in the Los Alamos area Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol says officers were notified of the collision at around 7:42 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from another driver.

CHP says while it’s unknown exactly when the crash occurred, it’s believed to have taken place sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 7:40 a.m.

Investigators say the driver was heading northbound on the highway, south of Alisos Canyon Road, “at a high rate of speed” when he went off the road near a curve and up a dirt embankment.

The small SUV then rolled, ejecting the driver, who CHP says was not wearing a seatbelt.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators says it’s unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle, according to officers, who say his name will be released once next-of-kin is notified.
