California Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle that evaded an officer and led them on a pursuit west of New Cuyama on Highway 166.
CHP Sgt. James Ferguson said an officer tried to stop the vehicle for driving at a high speed around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, but the car did not stop.
The driver then led CHP officers on a pursuit down Highway 166 westbound. CHP said at times the driver was going up to 110 miles per hour.
Eventually CHP officers threw spike strips down the street to stop the driver, but Sgt. Ferguson said the driver continued to drive, and the car finally stopped when it crashed.
"Obviously what we have here is evading, I can't emphasize enough, if you try to run from us, we are going to find you and we're going to take you to jail," Sgt. Ferguson said.
