People who live in San Luis Obispo County could hear a low growl on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Oct. 9 because the County of Emergency Services will be testing out its Early Warning System Sirens.

The sirens are located in the Diablo Canyon Emergency Planning Zone and are regularly scheduled to be tested.

All 131 sirens will be tested individually over those two day for a couple of seconds to make sure they are working properly in case the system needs to be used for an emergency. No action is necessary from the public.

The sirens were installed as a requirement for the operation of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant but can be used for any local emergency.

During an emergency, the Early Warning System is activated from Cayucos to the north of Nipomo Mesa. When these sirens are on, the county said it means the Emergency System Alert has been activated.
