Community members in San Luis Obispo County gathered for the third annual San Luis Obispo County Democratic Convention Saturday at the San Luis Obispo Guild Hall.
For the past nine months, the Cal Poly Democrats Club and the San Luis Obispo County Democratic Party collaborated to invite local elected officials, community organizers and other keynote speakers to hold panel discussions and workshops for the local community.
According to Emma Sullivan, co-chair of the convention and the secretary for the Cal Poly Democrats Club, convention attendees and officials discussed key issues like immigration, labor, healthcare, gun reform, housing and climate change.
"The power of coming together with people who feel the same as you and have the same goals as you on these really critical issues that are often life or death is really empowering and meaningful," said Sullivan.
In addition to panel sessions, the convention featured a resource fair, an opportunity to meet with local candidates and workshops on how to mobilize the youth vote, said Sullivan.
According to the event's Facebook page, several elected officials at the convention include District 3 Supervisor Adam Hill, District 5 Supervisor candidate Ellen Beraud, Sen. Bill Monning and District 35 Assemblymember candidate Dawn Addis.
